Microscopy I Sat 9:00am - 10:00am (Ages 5 and older) ($225.00)
Youth will learn how to use the microscope, create wet mount slides and identify structures under the microscope. The skills acquired can help prepare youth for careers in science, forensics, labs and healthcare. Youth meet twice per week for four weeks. Lab sessions: 1/6. 1/13, 1/20 and 1/27
Molecular Biology Sat 12:00pm - 1:30pm Ages 12 and older
The experiments stress the relevance of molecular biology and to the study of physiology and disease. Students learn how proteins are separated on the basis of charge by electrophoresis. With this information, they perform a series of experiments aimed at illustrating the importance of technique in biology and medicine. Labs meet 1/6, 1/13, 1/20 and 1/27/2018
Genetic Engineering CRISPR Sun 3:00pm - 4:30pm Ages 12 and older
Genetic engineering involves modifying an organism’s DNA to deliberately change an aspect of the organism for a particular purpose. Experiments demonstrate the power of the CRISPR Cas9 system by modifying the genomic DNA of a strain of a nonpathogenic bacteria so that it can grow and survive in conditions it normally would not be able to.
Labs meet 1/7, 1/14, 1/21 and 1/28/2018
Pathology Sat 10:00am - 11:30am Ages 12 and older
Participants will explore the causes of diseases, examine body organs for diagnostic and forensic purposes and learn normal vital sign ranges and blood count levels.
Labs meet 1/6, 1/13, 1/20 and 1/27/2018
Microbiology Sat 9:30am - 11:15am (Ages 12 and older) ($325.00)Participants will explore the world of microbes, identify bacteria types, learn aseptic techniques and how to make media to grow bacteria. Skills acquired: Microscope usage
Media preparation - Bacteria Identification - Aseptic techniques - Microbiology Terminology
Anatomy & Physiology Sat 10:15am - 11:15am (Ages 12 and older) ($275.00)Participants will explore the human body, identify human tissue under the microscope and perform a dissection. The skills acquired can help prepare participants for careers in science, medicine, labs and research.
Lab sessions begin November 4, 2017
Genetics Sat 11:30am - 12:30pm (Ages 5 and older) ($225.00)
Participants will explore DNA, genes and karyotyping in this hands on lab. Labs meet once per week. The lab will provide an in depth knowledge of genetics.
Lab Sessions begin November 4, 2017
